Hand Infection

Causes :

Trauma
Wound (open, penetrating)
Blood
it is direct infection by bacteria(G+,G-,unaerobic)


Clinical presentation :
Redness ,tender, swelling ,loss of function.
Red streaks.
L.N.
Treatment :



Rest
Elevation
Antibiotics
If late: Drainage UGA
EARLY mobilization



Paronychia :
Infection of nail bed , fold
ACUTE : by G+ ,swelling ,pus
RX : Antibiotics ,drainage
CHRONIC: fungal
RX : local antifungal ,systemic


Pulp space infection :
Direct penetrating injury
Throbbing pain
Rx : drainage










Viral infecton :
It is herpes simplex
Pain ,crusty ,vesicles
Rx no surgery only if abscess

Tenosinovitis :

Acute pyogenic infection of finger
Swelling spindle shape
Rx drainage ,antibiotic and irrigation of tendon sheath


Osteomylitis :
Trauma
Neglected person
Rx antibiotics and if pus,drainage.

Pilonidal sinus :

In the web space of barber
Treated by excision of cyst containing hair.


Web space infection :
treated by drainage
