Classification of waxes

A – Wax pattern :
1 – Green casting wax.
Used for major connector of metallic denture base.

2 – Mesh wax.

Used for minor connector of metallic denture base.

3 – readymade clasp wax.

Used for retention of prepared tooth.

4 – sprue wax.

Used for spruing during casting procedure.

5 – modeling wax.

Used for making temporary denture base. Sometimes it is used in making occlusal rims.

6 – readymade bite rim wax.

Used for making occlusal rims for registration of vertical dimension, centric relation and arrangement of teeth.It is more preferable than modeling wax in making occlusal rims.

B – processing wax:

1 –Boxing wax.
Used for boxing during pouring of impression.
2 – utility wax
Used in boxing procedure, it is applied on the borders of boxing wax to obtain smooth borders.

3 – Carding wax.

Used for attachment of artificial teeth.

4 – Inlay wax.

Used for inlays, crown and bridges.

5 – Tracing wax.

Used for border molding of special tray.

6 – block out wax.

Used for blocking severe undercuts.

7 – sticky wax.

Used for temporary repair of metallic denture base.

8 – relief wax.

Used to relief areas that can't withstand occlusal load.

C – Impression wax.

1 – corrective wax.
Used for correcting final impression defects.
2 – bite registration wax.
Used for bite registration between upper and lower jaws.
