Enzyme : It is a protein catalyst synthesized in all living cells that regulate a biochemical reaction without being changed.Enzyme
DEFINITION: Are proteins catalysts for biochemical reaction.General properties of enzymes 1.enzyme catalyze chemical reaction 2.they do not change the equilibrium point of the reaction that they catalyze 3. .since all known enzyme are proteins any agency or electricity that can damage native protein structure also causes loss of catalytic activity, thus heating of enzyme, treatment with strong acid or bases or exposure to denaturationg agent destorage their catalytic activity.
4.enzymes have molecular weight ranging about 12000 to over one million, some enzymes consist only of one or more polypeptide chain ,but other contain in addition some other chemical component that is required for activity called a cofactor . The cofactor may be either metal such as Mg ,Mn, Zn, or Fe, or it may be complex organic molecular ,usually called a coenzyme. Some enzymes required both a metal ion and a coenzyme
